about
As a follow-up to fiery 'When You Go', which has quickly garnered tens of thousands of streams and several editorial playlist placements, Okay Mann turns up the heat even further on 'Over This'. A loud chorus at 0:43, a quiet chorus at 2:43, and kick-ass rock & roll throughout. This song is a letter to yourself, an ode to depression, and a hard look in the mirror. It's a lot, a lot, and a lot. Crafted between Vancouver and London, 'A Lot' digs into the things that keep us all down from time to time.
It was mastered by Greg Calbi (Bon Iver, The National, Tame Impala, Casey Musgraves) and is the second in a string of four singles ahead full-length release slated for September 2021. The artwork for A Lot adds an image of soil to the collage growing with each release. To the artist, this represents the act of digging down and tackling the challenging work of looking yourself in the eye and saying what needs to be said.
“The inspiration for this song came from a phone call with a friend" Okay Mann explains. "I was going through a difficult time and set out to write a bit of a letter to myself. I was reminded me that I had a lot to be thankful for... even if I had trouble seeing it at the time".
lyrics
Lyrics:
You're sitting across from that old black crow
And I thank God you called me up before he feigned a throw
And I know you're wired to not let anybody in
But you must be tired, cause the water's higher than its ever been
When I hear you speak it ties me up in knots
Cause you can barely see what you are for what you're not
But you gotta dig deep and run with what you got
Because it's a lot - a lot and a lot.
I know you're finding it hard to out the bottle down
Cause there's always a thought that one more drop won't even make a sound
And you're building a wall of more than mud and stone
Cause on the other side, its easier to hide when you're all alone
When I hear you speak it ties me up in knots
Cause you can barely see what you are for what you're not
But you gotta dig deep and run with what you got
Because it's a lot - a lot and a lot.
Hold on, keep breathing
Because your heart is still beating
Hold on, time's healing
And if you're holding on, I'm holding on
When I hear you speak it ties me up in knots
Cause you can barely see what you are for what you're not
But you gotta dig deep and run with what you got
Because it's a lot - a lot and a lot.
