Eternal Optimist
03:41
|

I’m walking around with my head stuck in a fog, I hound the mailman like a love-sick dog. You never did reply to all the words I wrote back then, but maybe you just couldn’t find a pen. Could it be you had nothing to say? I’m still checking on that mailbox every day. I never could quite figure out the how and why and when, and maybe you just couldn’t find a pen.
I pray that mail will come in sun, and rain, and snow. If I change address you’ll be the first to know. I’m impatient in most everything I do, and I’m waiting on you.
So call me the eternal optimist, forever casting for the catch I missed. Darling, I'm just waiting on that letter from a friend, and maybe you just couldn’t find a pen.
I pray that mail will come in sun, and rain, and snow. If I change address you’ll be the first to know. Just send the word and you and I can rendezvous in a year or two.
So call me the eternal optimist, forever casting for the catch I missed. Darling, I'm still waiting on that letter from a friend, and maybe you just couldn’t find a pen.

Mountains

Well, what can you do? Good things come to an end, but can it be true you and I are just friends? When my eye catches yours my cheeks turn to red, so I’ll look at the mountains instead, yes I’ll look at the mountains instead.
Life was so simple with you at the coast. And I lost it all, but I miss you the most. Now I can’t stand the sight of my empty bed, so I’ll look at the mountains instead, yes I’ll look at the mountains instead.
The moment we met I wish that I knew that you’d make me so happy then make me so blue. Between us it’s over, at least that what you said, so I’ll look at the mountains instead, yes I’ll look at the mountains instead.

In The End / i

It don’t matter where you’re going, I’ll be going too. It don’t matter what you’re saying, I will side with you. I know that it’ll kill me in the end, but it’s always your direction that I will bend.
It don’t matter who you’re fighting, I’ll defend your pride. Do your best to try and scare me; I won’t run and hide. I know that it’ll kill me in the end, but it’s always your direction that I will bend.
Friends and family try to warn me; say I'm walking blind, but other girls they tend to bore me and doll I love your mind. I know that it’ll kill me in the end, but it’s always your direction that I will bend.

When She's Not Around
04:40
|

She’s got a good heart and second-hand art. I’m thawing out her bones and she’s borrowing my clothes, but she plays a bit part. Now I’m the bad guy misidentified. Lost December days fade to cold November rains, and I’m flying stand-by. She’s got so many faces. She’s lived so many places. She leaves me real in vacance, ‘cause I only miss you when she’s not around.
Can you tell by my smile I’m a quiet hostile? Counting down the days ’til my impeccable malaise: this is love in profile. She’s got so many faces. She’s lived so many places. She leaves me reeling vacance, ‘cause I only miss you when she’s not around.
I’m not unfeeling; the muscle’s healing. Selfless took me in, I’m ruddy-faced from gin and staring at her ceiling. She’s got so many faces. She’s lived so many places. She leaves me reel in vacance, ‘cause I only miss you when she’s not around.

It Won't Be Long
03:54
|

You’d think I'd grow accustomed to you being away, but ever since you left me here, I see you everyday. We might have made it work if you had had the guts to stay but oh my darling, it won’t be long.
Winter’s on its way, yes I can feel it in my bones, and I swear it’s gotten colder ever since I've been alone, and it feels as though your memory’s the only thing I own, but oh my darling, it won’t be long before I see your smiling face and I can hold your hand, ‘cause then I’ll be right by your side. Oh my darling, it won’t be long.
I’m starting to forget all of the ridges of your spine, and I can’t even tell if it’s the distance or the wine. You went to the West and left my spoiling on the vine, and oh my darling, it won’t be long. I doubt that you can hear me, but I guess you ought to know: I wish that I had told you, “take me with you when you go”, but I can keep from drawing holding on to the ago, and oh my darling it won’t be long before I see your smiling face and I can hold your hand, ‘cause then I’ll be right by your side. Oh my darling, it won’t be long.
I’d walk through the fire for to find the love I knew, so darling would you blame me if I tried to see this through? Cause I’ll be at my best when I am lying next to you, and oh my darling it won’t be long. “There’s nothing to fear,” you said, “it’s just a change of state.” but my heart’s been defeated by this crooked twist of fate. So will you be there waiting when I reach those pearly gates? ‘Cause oh my darling, it won’t be long.

Little Mersey
02:43
|
|||
The winter winds blew strong, I never felt like I belonged, and I was built to roam. It started with a song and proved perceptions wrong: this place became my home among the monochrome.
I didn’t know what I would find on these cobbled streets surrounding me, but what I got was peace of mind, and a little Mersey.
Seasons came to pass in stubborn overcast with more rain than I could stand. The years when by so fast, and through the hourglass, I came to understand this town made me a man.
To me these streets are stuck in time; they’re as bittersweet as a fading memory. There’s nothing quite so saccharine as a little Mersey.
